Alessio Guarino

Alessio Guarino is an Italian physicist, born in Florence, Italy in 1970. He is a member of the French National Centre for Scientific Research.
Overview
Guarino works in the domain of statistical and nonlinear physics, such as renewable energies, fracture, fluid mechanics, sociophysics and granular matter. Sergio Ciliberto, Riccardo Scorretti and Guarino introduced a numerical technique studying the effect of thermal fluctuations in heterogeneous systems. He is currently employed with the State University of French Polynesia and the French Polynesian Gouvernement in Tahiti. He was previously at the University of California, Santa Barbara and the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon.
Current Research
Guarino, Duccio Fanelli of the University of Florence and Timoteo Carletti from Notre Dame de la Paix university in Namur, Belgium, are working on a new non-invasive technique to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases in the early stages, such as Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. They are also working on SocioPhysics, which is the science that investigates the behaviour of human groups by the mean of mathematical equations and physical laws. Recently, in the name of the gouvernement, he got involved into the evaluation and the study of the Education system of French Polynesia. In the field of renewable energies, he is working on a new concept of SWAC (Sea Water Air Conditioning). He is also developing a series of complementary applications of SWAC. One of them will allow to produce potable water and to grow continental plant, fruits and vegetables in a tropical habitat.
