Hotel Grand Central is a tourist hotel on Orchard Road in Singapore. The hotel ceased operations in August 2012 to proceed with the demolition stage of the building and foundation in part of a redevelopment project. The new hotel is expected to reopen in October 2014. The hotel was built in 1970, over land formerly belonging to a Sumatran graveyard dating back to the 1840s. Due to much needed refurbishment, the Hotel Grand Central was closed down in August 2013 for a redevelopment project involving the complete demolition of the building and foundation for a new 10-storey building. The new hotel is expected to reopen in October 2014, and will consist of 756 rooms.<ref name=GHI-hotels/>
