Nepal Defence Army
The Nepal Defence Army is a "shadowy Hindu extremist group" responsible for bombing a Christian orphanage in April 2007, and a mosque and the offices of Kantipur Publications in Biratnagar, Nepal in March 2008, resulting in the deaths of two people. It has also bombed the offices of civil society leader Dr Devendra Raj Pandey, Krishna Pahadi (chairperson of the Human Rights and Peace Society in Nepal) and the central office of CPN-UML in Balkh. The group is led by a former policeman known as Parivartan, who claims to have 1,200 trained soldiers and 5 trained suicide bombers in his command. Parivartan said "Nepal Defence Army has been founded to fight for Hinduism... Hindus worldwide support us, including the families of top Maoist leaders. Our soldiers are being trained across the border in India and we get the ingredients for manufacturing explosives from India. We are not funded by the palace. If the palace had tried to promote Hinduism and Nepal as a Hindu state, we wouldnt have to wage our war. We dont dabble in politics. Our sole aim is to form a Hindu state... The bombs we threw at the Maoist office were intended as a warning and not to kill. I stopped plans to assassinate Maoist chief Prachanda and Maoist minister Dev Gurung. But if the warning is not taken seriously, the eight-party ruling alliance can suffer serious losses."
