Herbert Hurd Primary School is a co-ed primary school in Newton Park, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The school caters to English-speaking pupils from grade 1 to grade 7. About Mission Statement Herbert Hurd is a child centred school where we endeavour to develop each individual learner to their full potential, to meet all requirements of their developing world. It is our aim to develop a schooling programme that leads to: *the development of accepted and respected values; *a pride taken in all aspects of schooling and life; *the development of an academic awareness by creating a diversity of academic incentives; *participation in acomprehensive sporting and cultural programme; the maintaining of strong values and the ethos of Herbert Hurd; *the development of each learner's self-esteem and confidence by giving deserved praise; *acknowledge achievement in relation to ability and creating opportunities in a secure, comfortable and disciplined enviroment. History The school is named after Mr Herbert Hurd, a member of the P.E. School board. Mr Hurd donated the land to the education authorities to build the school. The school was officially opened in January 1954. The first principle was Mr Martin Emmerick.
