Hanne Tolg (born 1965) is a Norwegian writer and political commentator. She is a member of the editorial board of document.no. Tolg holds a B.A. in business administration from BI Norwegian Business School specialising in French. She has also studied at the École Superieur de Commerce Grenoble and at the École Superieur de Commerce de Nantes. She has worked as a market analyst for Storebrand in Norway and the U.K, as a lecturer at Llandrillo College, and has worked for the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service. In 2013 Tolg started writing for document.no on a volunteer basis, using Hanne65 as her pseudonym. In 2014 she switched to using her own name. In June 2015, anonymous complaints were sent to her employer, the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The complaints were due to her writings in Norwegian which included critical analysis of the effect of immigration to Norway. She was informed by her employer of 13 years that a hearing might be assembled to review the accusations. Rather than facing a hearing, Tolg decided to join document.no as a full-time writer. Anders Giæver of Verdens Gang, the largest newspaper in Norway, described what Tolg had to go through as a Kafkaesque process. Further, Giæver found that Tolg's writings were well within the limits of freedom of speech. Based on this case, Giæver and others argue that freedom of speech is threatened if employees must fear for their jobs due to external and anonymous complaints. In 2016, articles by Hanne Tolg topped the lists of the most-shared articles in Norway on two separate days.
