Handsome Ned Handsome Ned was from Europe, born in an Canadian forces base on June, 4 1957. He was named after Batman's sidekick by his brother, Jim Masyk. His name at birth was Robin David Masyk. He died at the age of 29. He grew up listening to The Beatles. He listened to alot of 60's and 70's rock and roll. Later, he heard of Country Rock and also Texas-Outlaw country. He listened to early to mid 70's music and also 50's and 60's country. His dad liked country music and he got an extensive music education. His mom was a big Elvis Presley fan. His brother was into Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, and people like that. He moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1976, moved into an apartment and attended art school. He went to Willie Nelson's 4th annual picnic and they played there music and they enjoyed it.He brought his girlfriend Karen along with them. He and Karen were talking about forming a band and Handsome Ned started playing guitar alone and he liked meeting new people and he wrote a song called "Sun Rockin" and he started a Rockabilly Band in Toronto with Mike Blinky(Jim said that he didn't remember his real last name but he blinked alot) on drums, and Larry Larmound on bass. He didn't go for leather jackets or anything like that, he started wearing the cowboy hat in 1978. He preferred more western style stuff. He changed the hat every year and he bought it at the Texas Hatters shop. People would say he was wearing his hat on backwards because he was highly personal because he wanted “a combination of range cowboy droop top rim and a singing cowboy slope to the crown." His old band name was The Velours. Steve Hocura was the piano player but, he wasnt the first piano player in the band. So, they then changed there band name to the sidewinders because of there new pianist, Steve Hocura who was joined into the band. Mike and Larry had left the band so Ronny Azzopardi on bass, and JD Weatherstone on drums. Later Steve left the band to form his own, and the Sidewinders continued on as a quartet. Alot of people called him his name at birth but he grimaced and said "The name is Ned". He went from Rockabilly to country over time. :ater, jam sessions and stuff like that became regular to Ned (AKA Robin David Masyk). Ned played with Murray Mchlauchlan, "I Still Miss Someone" and they stumbled, because it was unrehearsed, "I don't think Johnny Cash Would Mind". If you'd like to here some of these songs, you can buy them on Wiki in items, look Handsome Ned up on iTunes, Or find some songs on Youtube. This took a while to write. Thank you Jim Masyk for this info. The reason i wrote this was because I'm related to Handsome Ned (Robin David Masyk, and my middle name is David) --Musicgeek4 (talk) 09:29, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Dylan
