Gustus Bozarth

Gustus Bozarth is a homeless man who picked up and folded an American flag from a flagpole which had been knocked down by a storm. The flag was found lying on the ground in front of METI Inc., a federal contractor in East El Paso, Texas. Not long after airing the video, station KFOX in El Paso, Texas, started getting emails and calls from people all over the country wanting to know how they could help. KFOX news director Elizabeth O'Hara said the station had received calls from New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and other states, adding that the station never expected the story to take off as it did. Bozarth learned how to fold the flag in Tampa while working as a security guard. The incident occurred at around 1:40 AM. Bozarth, who lives in the back of a warehouse near the area, says he rescued the flag out of respect for his country.
Offers of help
Meti spokesperson Rebecca Orozco told KFOX that the company has received many "heart-warming responses" from people wanting to help Bozarth. Offers have ranged from getting him a job to feeding him for a year. The Opportunity Center for the Homeless in El Paso feels the best way to help him would be to set up an escrow account, and is hoping to do that once Bozarth can obtain proper ID.<ref name="foxnews" />
