Sekhon has been a Greens organiser and campaigner for many years, having joined the party in 1994. He directed the state election campaign for the party at the 2002 state election, as well as being a candidate for the seat of Richmond at the 2006 state election. He had also worked with the Environmental Defenders' Office and the Victorian National Parks Association. Sekhon is currently seeking re-election for the City of Yarra local government area at the upcoming elections on November 29th 2008, for Nicholls Ward, which covers the inner city suburbs of North Carlton (including Princes Hill), North Fitzroy, and part of Fitzroy.
