Grupo Capoeira Batuque is the longest standing capoeira school in Southern California, USA. Founded in 1989 by Mestre Amen Santo, Capoeira Batuque is based in Los Angeles, California. Capoeira Batuque does not distinguish its capoeira style between Capoeira Regional, Angola or Contemporanea; the group practices and teaches all aspects of capoeira. "Batuque" has meanings, but two key definitions are rhythm, and fighting style. Batuque was an African fighting style that Mestre Bimba used to create the style of Capoeira Regional. Mestre Bimba learned this art from his father during his childhood.
