Groundies

Groundies is a popular American playground game for four or more players in an area that features a playground or other climbing structure. It is sometimes is called Grounders.
First, an "it" is selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors, "Nose Goes", or "Not-it" or some other method. Whoever is "it" then covers or closes their eyes and counts to 10 or some predetermined number. While "it" is counting, the other players scramble to a location off of the ground, on the playing structure. Players avoid being touched by "it" at the risk of becoming the new "it". Players trying to avoid being touched by "it" may move on the structure or from one structure to another. If "it" senses that one of the other players is on the ground, they may yell "Groundies!" at which time any other player who is currently on the ground becomes the new "it". If more than one player is on the ground when "it" calls "Groundies!" those players must select a new "it" by one of the aforementioned methods.
One variation of Groundies specifies that "it" must be off the ground (on the structure) before calling "Groundies!" at the risk of continuing their reign as "it".
Rules of Groundies vary, but can be found online. The game can be dangerous because of the blindness of "it" and the risk of being off of the ground.
The game's popularity is vast. There is a fan site on Facebook.
