The Zen Kôan book
"Green cliff" refers to a famous anthology of Zen paradoxical anecdotes named also "Kôan". This anthology is considered by the Rinzai tradition, which give to the kôan method all his value, as one of the most important zen text.
From an litterary point of view, the anthology is seems also very interesting because of its way of writing. The text is a juxtaposition of critics, remarks, humoristic sentences that the zen masters have linked the one to the other. The all suite can give to the profane an impression of non-sens, of absurdity. In front of this, the reader must be able to find the real and true signification hided in this original structure.
The French zen center
"Green cliff" refers also to a French Zen Center located in the Ardèche region ("La Falaise verte").
The "Falaise Verte" center is headed by Master Taikan Jyoji who founded it in 1976 on his return to Europe from Japan after 7 years in the Rinzai Zen monastery of Shôfuku-ji in Kobe. His Master, Yamada Mumon Rôshi was one of the most prominent Zen figures of the 20th century.
The center offers nowadays a zen enseignement in the continuity of the Rinzaï tradition.
It possess a traditionnal Kyudo Dojo, and a traditionnal Zendo place of meditation.
