Grass Roots North Carolina (GNRC) is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization which advocates for the protection of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and gun rights. Grass Roots North Carolina also advocates the education of the public about trends which are believed to abridge those freedoms, in addition to participation in grassroots activism to preserve the rights themselves. GRNC is a volunteer-only organization which is strictly opposed to the employment of lobbyists, based upon the opinion that the lobbyists' "interests are invariably conflicted by having to curry favor with politicians in order to earn a living." Purpose GRNC seeks to pass pro-gun laws, and to oppose gun control and similar laws. Grass Roots North Carolina takes a position of no compromise in its opposition to gun control laws. Political activity Grass Roots North Carolina has been involved in the legislative process of several bills, including the passing of North Carolina's current concealed handgun laws. GRNC president Paul Valone drafted North Carolina House Bill 650; an omnibus bill which also included a Castle Doctrine exemption. In addition to their pro-second amendment advocacy, Grass Roots North Carolina has also been active in opposing laws that restrict the acquisition of firearms by lawful owners, or that shift the burden of guilt to owners of stolen handguns with which crimes have been committed.
