Grand Duchy of Flandrensis

The micronation Flandrensis was founded on September 4, 2008 and is situated in West-Antarctica. The Grand Duchy of Flandrensis is a sovereign and independent micronation inside the borders of the Kingdom of Finismund (another micronation in Antarctica), just like Gibraltar in Spain. Flandrensis is a constitutional monarchy, has a population of 40 citizens and Dutch is the official language. The nation is now mostly Catholic, followed by Protestant followers.
Territory
The Grand Duke of Flandrensis claimed “Siple Island” (73°39'S, 125°12'W ) in West-Antarctica. Flandrensis has already contact Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway, the United Kingdom and Russia (the important countries of the Antarctic Treaty). They also send mails to Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, Liberia, Ghana, Togo, Gambia, Barbados, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco and the Vatican City for inform them about their claim on Siple Island.
Siple Island is a 110 km long snow-covered island lying east of Wrigley Gulf along the Getz Ice Shelf off Bakutis Coast of Marie Byrd Land, West-Antarctica. Its area is 6,390 km² and it is dominated by the dormant shield volcano Mount Siple, rising to 3110 m. The island and mountain were named in 1967 in honor of the Antarctic explorer Paul A. Siple.
Legitimacy
Like all micronations, Flandrensis is not recognised by the government of any larger country.
Flandrensis is recognised by other micronations.
