Gold Creek School is a public school in the Australian Capital Territory suburb of Nicholls. It opened in 1996 as Nicholls Primary School with an enrolment of 230 students from kindergarten to Year 6. The first principal was Dr William Maiden. The school shares its campus facilities (library, gymnasium, playing fields and canteen) with neighboring school Holy Spirit Primary. In 1998 a secondary school campus was built opposite the primary school and the two schools became known as Gold Creek School, Primary and Senior site, respectively, with William Maiden as principal for both campuses. The primary site was changed to cater for student in Kindergarten to Year 5, with Year 6 to 10 being located at the senior site. Gold Creek School was the first school in Australia to implement a middle school program (years 6-8) The school logo was a result of a 'Design-a-Logo' competition run by the school in 1998. The winning design was from Year 8 student Jeff Mahlberg. The design's symbolism is the representation of the architecture of both schools, the primary site being on the left and the senior site on the right, with a creek separating them down the middle. The logo also incorporates the school colours. In August 2004 William Maiden announced his retirement as principal after 8 years. Ross Butlin was principal from 2005 through 2006. The current principal is Sue Jose.
