Giles Pilgrim Morris

Giles Pilgrim Morris (born 23 August 1966) is British counter-tenor, otherwise known as a male alto, specialising in repertoire from the 17th and 18th and 20th centuries.
He is currently a counter-tenor lay clerk at St Andrew's Cathedral, Aberdeen, having sung professionally in London on the church circuit for many years.
Musical education
Pilgrim Morris grew up in Hong Kong where his first instrument was the violin - he was taught by Arrigo Foa and by Lim Kek-han and, later, at Felsted School by Bryan Gipps.
He first sang at the age of eleven as a chorister at Felsted Preparatory School, under choirmaster Bob Barsby. He began singing counter-tenor at Felsted School at the age of sixteen, at the instigation of director of music Roger Lawrence.
He started singing professionally as an eighteen year-old student at Westfield College, University of London, whilst being taught by Timothy Penrose of the early music group Pro Cantione Antiqua.
Professional debut
His first professional engagement was at the Grosvenor Chapel in January 1985. Since then he has held the following permanent singing positions:
*Hampton Court Palace (as a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal)
*St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge
*Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks
*St George's, Hanover Square, the church at which Handel worshipped.
Performances
In addition to his engagements at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Pilgrim Morris also sings with the professional consort group Cantamus Hodie, and the Con Anima Chamber Choir. He has sung for the conductors Alistair Macdonald, Andrew Morrisson and Roger B Williams.
