Le Game

Le Game
Le Game is a hybrid sport that was created in the Northern Kettle Moraine of Wisconsin, USA, in the summer of 2007. Foremost Le Game is a sport of honor and honesty, if there is a issue on the field it is expected that all players will be honest in giving or taking away points or other issues. It is a simple game of the forest.
Rules of Play
The game uses only a ball of some sort - tennis, la crosse, or any other ball that will bounce on the ground - and sticks that are used to hit the ball. It is a game that is played in a partially wooded area, clearing an area around two trees in order to have an area in which to pitch - the Le Game terminology being "Bowl"- and to Bat - "Thrash". The point is to bowl at the opposing tree, hitting the ground and bouncing the ball into the tree, similar to cricket. The defending player may use a piece of wood he has acquired from the woods to thrash at the ball and hope to hit it past the mid way point of the course. 1 point is allotted to a bowler should he hit the tree and to a thrasher who hits the ball past the midway point. Games are usually played to 5 in a best of 3 series but can be played longer and shorter depending on time and number of players. The only way to win the game quickly is to thrash the ball into the other tree successfully ending the game. This is referred to as a "Three Fingered Jowler." The pace of the game is quick with bowling and thrashing changing out every time. The only way in which a person can bowl again is if the thrasher is hit with the ball. It is considered the thrasher's fault therefore the bowler may go again.
Course Layout
The best selection is an area that has no low lying brush and had hard dirt underneath whatever leaves or foliage might be on the ground. However, this game should be considered Zero Trace, therefore no major damage should be done to playing area. Usually the trees which one should bowl at should be large enough to provide a ample target for the ball. The size of the cleared area should be around 14 paces from tree to the end of the cleared area, with a middle area that is not cleared. The entire course being maybe 50 paces from tree to tree. The smaller the course the faster the game and the opposite for a large course, each requiring a greater ability to thrash or bowl. There should be a cleared area running behind the tree in order to allow for a running start to the bowl. Usually there is a line 2/3rds of into the clear area that is the throwing line of bowling. Depending on the size of the course this line maybe closer or further from the trees.
Terminology
Thrash - Defend the tree with a stick in the attempts of scoring a point
Bowl - Pitch a ball at the tree, attempting to bounce the ball off the ground or any other obstacle including the club of the thrasher, into the opposing tree.
Tally Ho! - Cheer for thrashing the ball but not garnsishing a point.
Three Fingered Jowler - Thrashing the ball into the opposing players tree therefore winning the game.
Corking - Bowling into a tree other than the one being aimed for. May be used in many contexts such as: "Oh you corked it." "Whoa nice throw Corky."
Conclusion
This is the basic rules of Le Game. It is easy to play and setup and is a sport that can be played in all seasons. I will be putting up some pictures to show the course set up and action. Hope you can get out there and play Le Game.
