Gehennesis is the third released album by the Danish Melodic/Death Metal band Compos Mentis. It was released in Denmark on March 26, 2007 and released in the rest of the world on June 18, 2007. It was recorded at Zigzound, Viby, Aarhus, Denmark during 2006. For a year or so, "The Drunken Diamond" and "The Mind's Eye" were the only ones to be published, though the record already had been finished. This was due to the bands' need of a record label, but in the end of 2006 they found a label, and thus they signed with Mighty Music. Some months later, in March, the group released their new album on Mighty Music. The title The title, Gehennesis is a wordplay combining the words Gehenna and Genesis, the latter being the first book in the Old Testament and meaning creation. Gehenna (Hebrew: "Ge Ben Hinnom") was a valley south of Jerusalem, which was used for rituals and later on was turned into a waste site where a constant burning fire was devouring litter and dead bodies of animals and criminals. As such it became a symbol of destruction and perpetual fire and hence the name Gehenna has later come to be a synonym for Hell. The reviews In Denmark the release of Gehennesis achieved in general good reviews, both the press and others expressed their satisfaction with the bands'work. However, their seem to be a tendency to either just cheer the music and ignore the lyrics, or cheer the concept, lyrics and the sound. Track listing I. The Drunken Diamond 5:27 II.
