Deine mutter

Deine Mutter is the name of an abandoned concept album by German rock band Die Unterhaltungsmöglichkeiten. The album was written in 1974 and due for release the following year but was never pressed.
The Album
The title is a reference to the Republic of Germany itself, as the 'mother' of the Rhineland. However, the use of the common phrase 'deine Mutter' (literally 'your mother') is intended to indicate the scornful nature of the relationship between child and parent. The album featured abrasive riffing and aggressive melodies, with 5 tracks in total. However, it was the offensive nature of the lyrics which caused the problems, with many citing them as being racist or parochial in their constant references to Kölnisch independence and freedom for the Rhineland. A further problem was caused by the frequent use of profanity and sexual metaphors.
Record companies would not accept the albums title, nor the content of the lyrics in some of the songs, in their current state and the band were unwilling to compromise on their artistic endeavour. The result is that the record has never been publicly released or heard beyond a tiny minority of fans. Lead singer Gregor Fleischer has always maintained that he would love to release the record, but would never do so while censorship concerning the themes inherent in the music prevailed.
