Geek Housecalls is a local New England company headquartered in Burlington, MA and is privately held with no affiliation to Best Buy Company or Best Buy's Geek Squad. Geek Housecalls was founded in 2001 by the pair of businessman, Dave Ehlke, and geek, Andy Trask. The company offers in-home and on-site computer support and services to individuals, families, and small businesses. Geek Housecalls provides primarily on-site services, but also offers carry-in service at their Burlington, MA laboratory, and remote service via the Internet. Redefining 'Geek' Geek Housecalls is one of several companies including Geek Squad and Geeks On Call that has contributed to the modern redefinition of the term 'Geek' as a badge of honor carried proudly by computer repair technicians worldwide. Trademark Dispute with Best Buy / Geek Squad In 2001 Geek Housecalls filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for trademark registration of its name. That registration was blocked by Best Buy who had just acquired Geek Squad. When Geek Housecalls persisted in attempting registration, Best Buy filed civil suit claiming trademark infringement. In January 2005, Geek Housecalls and Best Buy entered into arbitration and negotiated a settlement. Terms of the settlement are not permitted to be discussed except to state that Geek Housecalls continues to use the name Geek Housecalls. Geek Housecalls name was officially registered with the USPTO in January 2006.
