Galactic magnate

Galactic Magnate - Monopoly like online game
*Galactic Magnate is a online game based around the concepts of standard Monopoly, developed and published by Kresimir Cosic in 2005. Galactic Magnate takes monopoly to a whole new level with a few rule changes, and contemporary space theme. This adds to the diversity of game play, and enables no game to play out the same, therefore removing the boredom factor that can frequently set in playing standard monopoly. Start money is ever decreasing as the game goes along, until recession sparks Economy Collapse, known as EC for short. Players then begin to pay to pass the start. This helps speed game play, so that 5 player games will rarely exceed 60-90 mins. There is option to play 2, 3, 4, 5 player games. 2 player being the quickest game, lasting approx 20 to 30 mins.
Game Play
One of the first things any new player will notice is that all properties go to auction. This allows players to choose the price of every property on the board. With the added twist of the auctioneer gaining a 20% commission of the final sale price. Whilst start money is still positive (prior to the Economy Collapse) the auctioneer returns back to the start square. Whilst the game is in Economy collapse players now must pay to pass the start. Here when a property is auctioned the purchaser returns to the start. This can then become a very good tactic to avoid others property, and the ever decreasing start cost.
In Galactic Magnate players can only build "houses", (known as upgrades) when they have completed their colour set. Properties need upgrades to earn from, as unlike standard monopoly there is no income from a property without upgrades. However this rule does not apply to Extractors (white) and Utilities (black). Extractors are a set of 4 properties, based in the same position as rail-roads (train stations) in standard Monopoly. Again there is another twist with these. Whenever a player lands on any one of the extractors the owner receives income. Whilst the owner gains income (profit), the player landing does not lose any cash. Further to this, the owner also gains income through landing on their own Extractor. This makes Extractors (Whites) very valuable. Utilities also are a set of 4 black properties. These do not gain profit, but take cash away from opponents landing on them. The more you own, the greater their income each land. Utilities (black can best be compared to utility squares in standard Monopoly).
Trading - As with standard monopoly players can trade with any opponent. There are some trading rules however, in order to reduce any risk of cheating. Trades must benefit both trading players in order to improve their chances of gaining a better end rank. Cheat trades (as they are called if the trade is not beneficial to one party) can be reported on the forum where a moderator will check the game, and issue a penalty if necessary. This is very helpful as in other online monopoly games, such as Pogo there are no measures in place to prevent players teaming or cheating.
Ranking System - There is a point system where players gain or lose points from each game win or loss. All players start with 1000 points. You can check your ranking on the online rank list. Players in the top 10 rank positions are shown on the main website.
