From Air Force to Airwaves to Air Travel

Pete Snyder, a/k/a L'Boxman, got his start in broadcasting in of all places, Northeast Thailand, in 1966.  While assigned to the Royal Thai Air Base at Ubon, he worked parttime on the base radio station, a home grown system run by members of the US and Royal Australian Air Forces.  After receiving his discharge he attended Penn State and worked as a copywriter for WGBI in Scranton PA.  In 1969 he moved to Binghamton NY and became the morning jock at WKOP-AM, eventually taking on the position as programme director.  A few years later he was back in Scranton doing the "housewife" trick on WWDL-FM.  Dis-satisfied with the direction radio was heading, he left the business and worked for several national non-profit health agencies.

In 1975 he received a call from the Air Force Reserve and became a recruiter, serving In Philadelphia, South Bend, and Indianapolis.  In 1979 he was offered a position as Electronic Media Manager for the Reserve's Advertising unit at Robins AFB GA, where he wrote and produced radio and television spots.  He also edited the organisations quarterly newspaper and produced several awards banquets.

He transferred to Travis AFB CA in 1984 as a recruiting flight supervisor, and in 1986 was named senior recruiting manager at McChord AFB WA.  While there he started an improv group (The 360 Guys Int'l Radio Players Group of Tacoma).  He retired from the Air Force with 24 years of service in November 1993 and returned to Pennsylvania, working as an ad rep for a national publication. Previous back injuries prevented his constant travelling, and in 1996 he left for the combined USAF/VA hospital in Albuquerque, NM.  He was operated on in 1997 and survived to tell about it.

Once back on his feet he went to work as a travel agent in Albuquerque, and in 2000 he and his wife moved to Arizona where he worked for Rosenbluth Int'l, later bought by American Express Business Travel in Phoenix.   Pete and Barbara reside 35 miles east of Phoenix in Gold Canyon.
