Ronald J. Meyer

Ronald Meyer (born 1950) is an American photographer and author from Detroit, Michigan.
Personal life
Meyer was born to Ted and Harriet and has two brothers and one sister. Meyer graduated Redford High School in Detroit and went on to attend the University of Arizona and the University of Maryland, College Park. He married Diana in 1972, a year after they met, and moved to Berkley, Michigan to raise a family. They have two daughters, Marie and Christie, and a grandson named Theodore.
Service
He served two years on the Property Tax Board of Review, six years on the City Planning Commission, five years on the City Board of Appeals and four years on the Berkley City Council. From 1973 to 2007 Ron was active with many local charities and fund raising events. In 1991 Berkley selected Ron as its Citizen of the Year. Meyer served in the United States Air Force from July 1968 to April 1972.
Career
Ron has been a professional photographer since 1963. His first work was when he was just thirteen years old shooting weddings and working for Copy Craft Inc. At sixteen, he was hired by the Detroit Suburban Newspaper chain as a Photographers’ Assistant. By the time he was eighteen he was Manager of the Photographic Department. Later, while serving in the Air Force, he was attached to the Office of Special Investigations and traveled with the Apollo 15 astronauts and U.S. President Richard Nixon as a photographer.
In 1974 Ron and Diana started their first business, Ron Meyer Filming Inc. Their second business, American Information Services Inc. (A.I.S.I.), was added in 1980 and still provides records management and consulting services including microfilming and electronic imaging services. They later purchased Smith Processor Products and made it a division of A.I.S.I. SPP made film processing equipment sold under its own name and relabeled by Remington, Itek, and 3M. These processors have been used by many companies and organizations including the National Geographic traveling labs.
In 2007 Ron and Diana began semi-retirement and moved to Oxford, Michigan.
He has traveled from the Gulf of Mexico to Northern Canada photographing animals in natural settings. In the past he used the profits from the sale of his wildlife photographs to purchase equipment for a non-profit wildlife infirmary. His photographic art has won many awards including taking Best-of-Show. Meyers’ photographs have been shipped to many galleries throughout the United States and Canada. His work has been hung at exclusive one artist showings. Interior decorators also feature Rons art in their collections. His photographs have been printed in many newspapers, magazines and books including adorning covers. Programs and interviews of Ron about his photographic art and books have been featured on television broadcasts to all fifty states as well as other English speaking countries.
Books
Ron has authored books such as Nature Is Your Studio, a photographic field guide. His first children’s book, Freddy Fox, debuted in the spring of 2005 with great success. It won a 2008 Mom’s Choice Silver Award. His second children’s book, Casey Cougar, was co-authored by his wife and introduced in September 2007.
