Fredrik Svensk

Fredrik Svensk (born 1974) is an art critic and curator and based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
He is a part-time lecturer at Valand School of Fine Arts, University of Gothenburg, where he teaches art and culture theory and runs the Valand Seminar for Advanced Art Theory.
Since 2011 he has been editor-in-chief at Paletten, with Milou Allerholm and Sinziana Ravini. Also since 2011, he has been a staff writer and member or the editorial group at Kunstkrtikk, another art magazine. He has also contributed pieces to newspapers and Göteborgs-Posten, among others, and translated texts by writers such as Gilles Deleuze.
As a curator, Svensk has helped to develop the following exhibitions at Röda Sten Konsthall, Gothenburg, in collaboration with Lisa Rosendahl and Henrik Andersson:
*Äkta vara (true being / true commodity), 2007. An investigation of different contemporary processes of subjectivation, with artists Debora Elgeholm, Annika Eriksson, Isabell Heimerdinger, Saskia Holmkvist, Katya Sander, and Carey Young.
*Art After Education, 2008. Reexamined critical aspects of the method used in Adrian Piper's work Bach Whistled, 1970, by putting it into a contemporary socio-political context, with works by artists like Elke Marhöfer, Ida Börjel, and Malmö Free University for Women.
