Preuss about his view on art
"I paint very strong expressive images. From a technical point of view I mostly move between gouache, tempera and acrylic. These paints are applied with brushes, sponges, scrapers, rollers, etc. and later processed. Different kind of materials / applications are sometimes integrated as well. Several pictures still contain the structure of the thick pastes or are even fitted with silk-tissue paper inserts. Sketchy charcoal is used now and again too.
Almost all of the pictures are done is a quick, impulsive way of working. Associations are transfered into color, emotions become motion, shapes sketch the room where I am staying mentally. Painting for me is both liberation and creation.<ref name=autogenerated1 />
I rarely paint representational. The pictures do not have names. I leave the interpretation to the viewer and do not meddle with terms and specifications. The viewer - thus - is able finds his or her own history represented and their own explanation for my pictures.
Repeatedly one will identify landscapes in my pictures, which seem strangely broken. So as a first impression people will think to see and seemingly recognize a lake, a forest, a plane. On closer inspection, however, on can easily find different interpretations. Initial perceptions are thus challenged and the perspective is willingly changed.
I leave the whole viewing the work to my audience. I don't paint fast consumable goods that are explained ad hoc by itself and without ambiguity. I want to create the magic of something new and of irrational worlds that evenutally have their own magic."<ref name=autogenerated1 />
