Born in Freiburg (Breisgau) in 1969, Mat Hennek is a German photographer living in Switzerland.

Mat Hennek has also taken Portrait photos of classical musicians (Anna Netrebko, Sir Simon Rattle, Rolando Villazon, Hilary Hahn, Alison Balsom, Hélène Grimaud, Claudio Abbado, Lang Lang, Kent Nagano, Thomas Quasthoff, Krystian Zimerman, Valery Gergiev, Nelson Freire, Bryn Terfel.., etc.) and portraits of other artists (David Byrne, Lizz Wright, Rammstein, Seeed, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Rufus Wainwright, Daniel Liebeskind, Alex Katz, Giora Feidman, etc.).
Mat Hennek also performed some Advertising photos for prestigious brands such as Volkswagen, Rolex or Montblanc.
Biography
Mat Hennek worked for newspaper and broadcasting offices, before beginning his artistic training at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier and at the Lette-Verein in Berlin. In 1995, Mat Hennek was made an assistant to Prof. Hermann Stamm and the photographer Uwe Arens. His works have appeared in publications such as the BBC Magazine, Cosmopolitan, fivetonine, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, GQ, MarieClaire, Max, Playboy, Stern, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Vogue and ZEITmagazin.

In 1998, Mat Hennek founded the Kasskara agency in Berlin. Amongst others, Mat Hennek works for Deutsche Grammophon, fourmusic, EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group und Virgin Records, photographing worldwide reputed artists.

Alongside, Mat Hennek also took advertising pictures for major brands such as Montblanc, Lufthansa, Rolex and Volkswagen, before moving the focus of his work to fine art photography in 2006.

Since 2007, Mat Hennek lives with his partner, the French pianist Hélène Grimaud, in Switzerland.
