FPSBanana, The FPS Customization Community, is a video gaming website dedicated to the modification of various First Person Shooter titles on the Computer. The site was launched under the name CSCentral in early 2003 by Sebastian as a fan site for the multiplayer shooter Counter Strike. In the following months the site was met with a great deal of success as the idea of a site dedicated to the production and distribution of user generated content appealed to a large variety of gamers alongside those who were looking to break into the industry.
Overview
Soon after the sites launch Tom joined as an administrator. Under this administration, the site has undergone various design changes ranging from a standard download site with a forum to a fully interactive venture that shares many similarities with the social networking site, MySpace.
In early 2007 a thread detailed plans for expansion reached the forums. The main focus of these plans was the expansion of the site into the fields of Real Time Strategy and Role Playing Games. Within a week of this promise the domains RPGBanana.com & RTSBanana.com were acquired by the site administrators.
On January 4 2008 RTSBanana and RPGBanana went live.
History At launch the site focused exclusively on customization for the PC Game Counter Strike and operated under the name CSCentral. On December 15 2003 the site underwent severe changes and reappeared as CSBanana. The decision of naming the site was immediately questioned by the entire community, who considered the name a joke. The site administrators were also accused of short listing their members as the new system made them responsible for keeping the site updated. The news section suffered an extreme amount as the previously strong support from the sites developers was lost.
During the life of CSBanana members were met with an interface similair to that of social networking sites. This quickly developed with customizable profiles, file storage systems, an improved private messaging system and buddies lists.
Mascot On February 18 2004 a competition was held that asked the community to create a mascot. The prize was a 12 month subscription to file planet and a Razor Boomer mouse. On February 18 2004 the top 15 were organised. We had to do a Top 15 rather than a Top Ten because there were so many good entries to choose from. It was a very difficult decision for us to make, Cluver and I where doing a lot of discussions on it but I think in the end we made the right decision on who would be the winner.
