Foodmaster Square

Foodmaster Square is a colloquial name for the intersection of Alewife Brook Parkway and Broadway, in Somerville, Massachusetts. It is at the foot of one of the seven hills of Somerville, Clarendon Hill, northwest of the hill.
In addition to its location directly on Route 16, residents of Foodmaster Square enjoy easy access to the Middlesex Fells Reservation, the parkland along the Mystic River, the Alewife and Davis T stations, and Route 2. The square is readily accessible via public transportation, as multiple MBTA bus lines stop on its outskirts at the Clarendon Hill stop. It is the final destination for the number 88 bus (which goes to the Lechmere stop to the south) and the number 89 (which goes to Sullivan Square). The number 87 bus stops here enroute to Arlington Center.
Directly across the road from the heart of the square is Dilboy Field (named after George Dilboy, a prominent figure in Somerville history). This recently renovated athletic complex is home to everything from Somerville Little League to the Somerville High School track and football teams. In addition, there is a community swimming pool. Dilboy Field is part of the Alewife Brook Reservation, a responsibility of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Foodmaster Square gets its name from Johnnie's Foodmaster, one of the main businesses in the area. Next to Foodmaster is a liquor store, and in the parking lot is a van where flowers are sold.
