Florida District Key Club International

The Florida District Key Club International, is a governing body of Key Club International, a youth sponsored community service organization of Kiwanis International, local Kiwanis clubs and school districts across the state. It is the oldest Key Club district and the third largest following, California-Nevada-Hawaii and Texas-Oklahoma. It has over 16,000 members and it is made up of 38 divisions.
Organization
The Florida District is divided into four main levels of governance; District, Zone, Division and Club. Divisions are placed into Regions, groups of neighboring divisions who are partnered together as an alliance for service within their borders. The highest recognized position is the District Governor with the lowest ranking being the Club Bulletin Editor.
History of the Florida District
Current District Board
The Florida District Board is similar to all other Key Club International District boards.
A total of five board meeting, (Initial District Convention, Leadership Training Conference (Summer Board), Fall Board, Winter Board, and Concluding District Convention), are held during the Key Club term of one year. The initial assembly of the District Board at the initiating District Convention is primarily used as a transitional/training conference for the elected Lt. Governors.
A Lieutenant Governor represents each of the 38 divisions in the district and serves as a liaison between the clubs in their division and the Florida District Key Club International Board. The Lieutenant Governor is required to attend the Leadership Training Conference, DistrictConvention, all District Board Meetings, Fall Rally, and the Regional Training Conference in their division and/or zone. The Lieutenant Governor must publish at least ten newsletters for their clubs, file monthly and board reports, hold Officers Training Conferences until all officers are trained, serve on state committees as needed. The Lieutenant Governor must also stay in constant contact with their clubs, the executive board, and the Kiwanis Board. They are expected to organize divisional service projects, hold Divisional Council Meetings, and visit each club in their division.
District Webmaster
The Webmaster is in charge of updating the Florida District of Key Club International Website. They update it to include all current projects, committee information, registration for district events, and other important facts.
District Editor
The Editor has the task of publishing the four issues of Sunshine News Source, the official publication of the Florida District Key Club International. They must create newsletters to publish to the District Board.
District Treasurer
The Treasurer must work to collect 100% dues from each Key Club in the state. The Treasurer is expected to create monthly financial reports, publish ten newsletters to the District Board and three to club treasurers, and handle all invoices and vouchers. He/She is expected to be in constant communication with the board, especially with the Financial Counselor.
District Secretary
The Secretary must produce the District Handbook, minutes for each District and Executive board meeting, publish ten newsletters to the Florida District Key Club International Board and three to club secretaries. They are also in charge of all District mailings, publishing The Keeping Up, and submitting a District Convention report, including all contest winners, election results, and a report to the International Office. The District Secretary is expected to receive all District communication; all Lieutenant Governor monthly reports, club reports, and other related reports are sent to him/her.
District Governor
The Governor is in charge of the entire District and presides over each Board meeting, publishes ten newsletters to the board, arranges training of all Lieutenant Governor-elects, appoints Board members to committees, and is expected to be in constant communication with the District Board, Kiwanis committee, and the International Trustee. The District Governor improves K-family relations by attending as many Kiwanis events as possible, and executes other responsibilities as they arise.
Committees
There are currently eight active committees on the District Board. Each Board Member is assigned to a committee with a specific domain of policy making, each committee is lead by an appointed Board Member committee chair.
