Floorball ball

A Floorball ball is a ball that is used when playing the sport of floorball. The ball is made out of plastic. It's a summetricall sphere with a hollow center. It has a weight of 26 grams and got a diameter of 72 mm. There is also 26 holes around the ball, each with a diameter of 11 mm.

In the beginning the balls had a flat surface. But in the recent years the manufacturers has started making balls with tiny dimples (as can be seen on the ball in the picture). The dimples have the effect of reducing the air resistance and also decrease the friction on the floor. And therefore making the shoot's more accurate and faster. The idea to make dimples on the ball came from seeing the golf ball. That also has dimples to reduce air resistance.

As the case is with all floorball equipment, including balls, they must be tested and approved according to the IFF's (International Floorball Federation) "Material Regulations". The testing and approving is made by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.
