FSET engineers act as the senior technical C4I adviser for the staff of the Carrier Strike Group, and Expeditionary Strike Group. The FSET is aboard every aircraft carrier and large deck amphibious assault ship at sea, as well as the Fleet Network Operations Centers (NOCs), Navy communications area master stations, and IT operations centers worldwide. Providing end-to-end support for command and control systems, communications and networks, the team enables the rapid insertion of new technologies and continuous support of computer network defense. Since the program was started in 1998, the FSET continues to be the single most important contributor to fleet C4I readiness. Every returning Strike Group commander has positively commented on the effectiveness and critical need for FSET support. They ensure configuration management is strictly adhered to.
The FSET Engineer has the ability to understand and resolve technical issues. They have the resources to evaluate and restore numerous Command, Control, Communications, (Computers), Intelligence systems.
The Department of Defense has required these engineers to have a minimum of Security+ certification.
