Fight Training Academy is a mixed martial arts gym based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Opened in 2007, Fight Training Academy was started by Omar de la Cruz, the country's most prominent mixed martial artist. He works as head trainer in most disciplines and uses it as his personal training facility. The gym has built up a fight team, and takes part in local MMA events, often including international opponents, as well as participating and organizing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling tournaments. Currently, the facility is home to various gold medalists crowned at the 2010 Central-American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament supervised by the Federação Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu. The facility offers instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Boxing, Taekwondo, Judo and a Capoeira class is also taught there by Grupo Alemar Capoeira. The gym is also known for its physical training and conditioning classes and routines. The facility features a boxing ring and two dojos in the workout space. Founding Fight Training Academy was founded by Cruz as his personal training facility, and to fill the void created by a lack of MMA gyms in the country.
