Fanhui chanting

Fanhui chanting is a new way of chanting that emerged in Amsterdam in the 2010<nowiki/>s. It combines Nepalese and Indian chanting methods with Dutch ideas about enlightenment. It is said to be a clear cut, no-nonsense way of understanding the self.
History of Fanhui chanting
Fanhui chanting was most likely conceived in late March 2014. The founders of this new way of chanting are Paul Amadeus Smid, Fabian den Ruijnaerde, James Kroezen, Sebastiaan de Havik en Tobias Ijsland. The main outlines of the method and of the initiation process were estabilshed during a conclave that lasted seven days. In June the number of practitioners had risen from the initial five to approximately 200 people. The number of followers of this new way of chanting has been rising steadily ever since.
Fanhui chanting culture and methods
Fanhui chanting is strictly confined to hundi-hundi nights. Any chanting outside these nights is not considered Fanhui chanting by most standards. A novice is asked to go through an initiation process which consists mainly of the cleansing of all orifices with goat's milk. When all the novices are cleansed the main chanting can proceed. The main chanting is largely based on Indian and Nepalese chanting techniques. The exact content and duration of the rest of the night is largely unknown. Practitioners swear an oath of secrecy and silence. Communication between practisioners is largely conducted through messageboards in local stores. Recently members have been utilizing social media platforms to arrange hundi-hundi nights and discuss the future of the movement. Because Fanhui chanting is closely related to Indian chanting it is believed by its members that it can have the same positive health effects.
