The Forum for American/Chinese Exchange at Stanford, aka FACES, is a student-run organization based at Stanford University dedicated to fostering Sino-American exchange. The group aims to create dialogue between Chinese and American students, thereby constructing a positive foundation for relations between the two countries. It was founded in the fall of 2001 by Jessica Chen Weiss, a student attending Stanford at the time. The organization's alumni network extends globally with over 200 delegates and organizers. Advisers to the group include university faculty, members of the business community, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. FACES has chapters at Stanford University, Peking University, Fudan University, and Renmin University. Since 2003, it has held conferences both in the United States and in China. Past conference programming has focused on Commerce, Culture, Technology and the Environment, and the International Political System, among other issues. In addition, the organization holds panels on issues related to Sino-American relations at Stanford. Notable speakers have included former Secretary of Defense William Perry, Zbigniew Brzesinksi, Thomas Friedman, and Robert Kapp.
