Eversheds Sutherland

Eversheds Sutherland is a global law firm that was formed on February 1, 2017 by the combination of Eversheds LLP and Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. The firm has about 2,300 lawyers that operate out of 61 offices located in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. While the firm does business under the Eversheds Sutherland brand, it consists of two independent legal entities: the United States-based Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP and United Kingdom-based Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP.
History
Eversheds LLP
Originally established in 1988 by a four-way merger between Alexander Tatham & Co, Broomheads & Neals, Daynes Hill & Perks and Evershed & Tomkinson. After several other UK-based mergers, the firm rebranded all of its member firms with the prefix "Eversheds" in 1992, then later in 1995, the names of said firms were shortened to just "Eversheds" in 1995. In November 2011, Eversheds' Dublin office, Eversheds O'Donnell Sweeney, and were also re-branded as "Eversheds." In November 2016, it was announced that Eversheds was in the late stage merger talks with the U.S. firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan.
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP
Founded in 1924 by William Sutherland and Elbert Tuttle, the firm of Sutherland & Tuttle first established a practice in the tax field. In 1933, Joseph Brennan became partner and the firm became known as Sutherland, Tuttle & Brennan. The firm opened an office in Washington, DC in 1937 and Mac Asbill, Sr. joined the Washington office. In 1954, firm co-founder Elbert Tuttle accepted an appointment to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Upon his departure, the firm was renamed Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP, the named it was known by for more than 50 years.
Eversheds Sutherland
On December 16, 2016, partners from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and Eversheds LLP voted to combine to form the new global law firm Eversheds Sutherland. Eversheds Sutherland officially formed on February 1, 2017 and currently operates out of 61 offices in 29 different jurisdictions around the world.
