Plot summary
Eve of the Dead begins by telling the story of a group of young men that live in a small town. They are apparently in a rock band, and are practicing when they are suddenly attacked by zombies. The men enter a house and board up the windows, very much like the story in Night of the Living Dead. Eventually, they run out of food and make a road trip to a larger city. The city has been overrun by zombies, and looters and other criminals have ransacked the city as well. The book makes references to rescue stations, an idea that appears to have originated from Dawn of the Dead. The men find one of these rescue stations that is protected by the National Guard. However, their stay is short-lived due to several atrocities that the men apparently witness inside the rescue station. They escape the rescue station, and find a Wal-Mart just outside the city limits. This is where the majority of the book takes place. The men create a fortress out of the Wal-Mart, using it for supplies and shelter from the undead.
