ERA 9

Era 9 is a Canadian rock band that was formed in Montreal, Quebec in 2010 comprised of Jona Dhe Paganon, Joe D'Adamo, Marco Leclerc, Philip Paolino and Andrew Costa. With a genre-bending mix of influences that range from Metallica to French folk, The Montreal rockers have become one of Canada’s breakout bands of 2013. Their inventive guitar-focused sound unifies an unmistakably hard-edged foundation with the subtle sensitivity of modern rock.
History
Early years (2003-2008)
ERA 9’s roots formed in high school, where lead guitarist Jona Dhe Paganon and drummer Marco Leclerc first teamed up in a Pantera/ Metallica cover band appropriately named Pantallica. They soon met up with and recruited rhythm guitarist Joe D’Adamo at a party. Eager to write their own material, the trio changed their name to Vice Versa.
Vice Versa (2008-2010)
In the hopes of starting to write original music, Jona placed an online ad for a singer and Phil (Vox) answered the call in March 2008. Preparing for a fund-raiser-gig in September 2008, Eric Maddalena (bassist) was introduced to the band by Marco and officially joined the band after the show.
During the summer of 2009, the band invested in a 3 song demo recorded at Planet studios in Montreal, Quebec. This first demo included the songs Falling, Vice Grip and Never See Me Again, which were later re-recorded and released.
After hearing the demos and seeing the bands potential and determination, Phil's mentor and music teacher, Gail Issenman took it upon her self to jumpstart the bands career. She introduced the band to her good friend, producer and sound engineer, Pierre Pinault (France D'amour, Nelly Furtado) and supported the band financially.
ERA 9 (2010-2013)
In early 2010, after looking for a more original and compelling band name, Joe's brother, Vince, proposed the name "Era". After further research, it was realized that the current time period was in fact the Big Era 9 (post WW2 - Present). From this point on, the band felt that it was their duty to define this era through their music. As a result, it was a unanimous decision to go forward with the name "ERA 9".
In August 2010, the band entered the studio with Pierre Pinault where they recorded their self-titled debut album.
After releasing the album in 2011, the band quickly attracted a Canadian fan base drawn to its relatable style. First came the emotionally charged single “Goodnight,” which generated positive reviews by some of their country’s toughest music critics and gave their public profile a boost. Then, after introducing the video for their second single, “Calling Out,” ERA 9 was invited to the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) studios for interviews. The single was also featured on Quebec’s number-one music television network, Montreal’s Musique Plus.
In Summer of 2012, the band embarked on a national tour across Canada, performing to growing audiences keen for ERA 9’s creative intensity.
In the fall of 2012, the band entered studio with Glen Robinson to record the song, Now You Know, with purpose to be released as a free download to fans.
Following their eastern Canadian tour in November 2012, they won the SiriusXM “Rock the Grey Cup” contest and had the privilege of performing at the prestigious 100th Grey Cup Festival—Canada’s equivalent to the Super Bowl. There, ERA 9 shared the stage with revered Canadian acts such as Matthew Good, Sam Roberts, Our Lady Peace and Treble Charger.
Turn Day (20013-Present)
In January 2013, due to personal reasons, Eric left the band.
At the end of the month, ERA 9, through Joe's network of friends, recruited bassist Andrew Costa just in time for the recording of the Turn Day EP.
In early February of the same year, ERA 9 entered Martin Deschamps studio, in Rawdon, Quebec, with Glen Robinson to track drums for the upcoming EP, wich was to be titled "Turn Day". The rest of the tracks were recorded at studio Multisons in Montreal. Quebec. Recording and mixing was completed in April and was then mastered at Sterling Sound by Ted Jensen (Breaking Benjamin, Green Day).
Turn Day is set to be released at the end of summer 2013. The first single, “Oxygen,” is an emblematic power ballad that puts the band’s sensitive side on full display, with its message of gratitude for all those who have helped along the way. Keeping that mindset front and center always has fueled their journey.
In June 2013, ERA 9 joined former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna’s band, Kingdoom, on tour for four shows in Canadian cities. Then later that same month, the band hit U.S. soil for the first time on a multi-date tour with Trapt that took them from Philadelphia to Milwaukee.
Later on in, in July, ERA 9 hops on tour with Drowning Pool and Pop Evil for additional dates that will take them through the mid west, all the way to Texas and back up to Canada.
