Vincenzo Cursio (born 14 October 1968) is an Italian journalist and human rights activist. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. He has collaborated with world leaders such as Mikhail Gorbachev and Betty Williams, he is currently CEO of the CIty of Peace for Children Foundation founded by Nobel Peace Prize Betty Williams and board member of several institutions, such Robert Francis Kennedy Foundation, International School of Sustainability and World Center of Compassion for Children International and serves also as senior advisor at Food Agriculture Organization of United Nations. Career In the late 1980s, Cursio was one of the leaders of the Italian Socialist Youth Movement. In 1994 he joined the Federazione Laburista, the Italian political movement chaired by the Liberal-Socialism leader Valdo Spini. During the Ciampi administration, Cursio held government positions in the Ministry of Environment, Urban Areas, EU Policies. From 1996 to 2000, he worked in the Defense Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. During the second Prodi administration, Cursio held the position of Head of Press Office of the Minister of Youth and sports activities. In 2008 he founded the NGO "Africa Must Unite" chaired by Ghana's leader Samia Nkrumah. In recent years, Cursio has been a leader of "The Movement for the Referendum" led by Mario Segni, aiming to reform Italian electoral law. Cursio is Managing Director of the City of Peace for Children Foundation, chaired by Nobel Peace Laureate Betty Williams. and founder of the World Centers of Compassion for Children, a non-profit organization. The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates Cursio was one of the original promoters of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. In 2006, with the support of its President Mikhail Gorbachev and the Mayor of Rome at that time, Walter Veltroni, Cursio was an original founder of The Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates is a non-profit organization based in Rome that operates on a permanent basis in both Moscow and Rome. The main task of the Permanent Secretariat is to organize the annual World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates and to ensure cohesion of Summit activities. The Permanent Secretariat also interacts with participants of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates for the purposes of preparation, organization and development of the Summits’ meetings, and to monitor and support the activities of Nobel Peace Laureates who participate in the annual Summits.
