Angela Reuss

Angela Reuss (born November 1, 1979), also known by her radio name, DJ KoolAide, is an author, former radio host, DJ, and producer for the show “World Hip Hop Movement” on WVQC 95.7 LP indie FM and internet radio in Cincinnati Ohio. She is also a music producer, photographer, voice over artist, and marketer. Reuss debuted her first book titled “Mom Dollar Money” in October 2014. As a voice over artist, Reuss has done voice overs for radio stations and TV ads.
Career
As a radio host, music producer and DJ
During her career in radio from 2011 - 2014, she became known for airing international Hip Hop, from both indie and mainstream artists. As a radio host, DJ KoolAide would seek out unique hip hop artists to interview on her show. She became known to find musical talent before they became prominent in the industry.
DJ KoolAide was recognized locally and nationally as a respected radio host and member of the hip-hop community. This resulted in awards and nominations. DJ KoolAide won an award for best DJ at the Northern Kentucky, Greater Cincinnati Hip Hop Awards. She was later nominated for “Best New DJ” with the Ohio Hip Hop Awards, and closely followed behind DJ Underground as the 2nd runner up.
The mission of the "World Hip Hop Movement" show, was to bring together different cultures and diversities through the universal language of music. DJ KoolAide worked to bring the World Hip Hop Movement to a broad spectrum of people of different races, cultures, and geographical locations.
As DJ KoolAide, Reuss worked to expand her show and the network of the “World Hip Hop Movement” to various areas of the world by: partaking in media coverage of the World Choir Games, Traveling to various cities and states of the U.S, Traveling out of the U.S. to Israel, and being a media correspondent for various events both inside and out of Cincinnati. As a member of the media, DJ KoolAide has covered events with both National and Indie acts, including, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, T.I., Lil Wyte, Three 6 Mafia, Juvenile, & Wiz Khalifa as well as many others.
As an author
As an author, Reuss wrote a parenting book titled “Mom Dollar Money”. The book is aimed at helping overwhelmed parents and children come to a compromise without power struggles. Reuss' book has appeared in various news websites and blogs. She also made an appearance on WCPO Channel 9 news in regard to this book.
In addition to her published book, Reuss currently has a blog called Indie by Nature, which encompasses information, tools, and resources for authors, musicians, bloggers, and business owners.
Personal life
Reuss was raised in the small town of Cleves, Ohio, as an only child, by her mother Sonia Malloni and father Thomas Reuss (who was an indie musician in the classic rock genre). At the age of 18, Reuss gained an extended family of a Step-Father, 2 Step-siblings, and 1 half sibling. During her time in school, she participated in drama club, cheerleading, choir, flag corps, and wore the school mascot uniform. She learned about music, and how to play the guitar from her father throughout growing up.
In 1996 - 1998, Reuss studied Child Development at Diamond Oaks Vocational School. There, she interned at various schools and daycares. Shortly after she became an after school teacher off and on for about 7 years.
In 1999, Reuss started her career as a portrait photographer, and throughout the years, she has evolved into photography of weddings, models, entertainers, and commercial photography, and is still doing photography to this day.
From 2002-2009, Reuss raised 3 children while working at several non-profit organizations, going to college, and struggling in a relationship with the father of her children who had problems with drugs and alcohol. In the year 2009, Reuss made the decision to become a single mother.
Shortly thereafter (in 2010), Reuss gained employment with an organization called Media Bridges (a community TV and radio station). Throughout her time there, Reuss became a graphic artist, started her own radio show; and participated in various music videos and TV shows. This is also when Reuss became DJ KoolAide, and her show, “World Hip Hop Movement” was born.
In October 2013, Media Bridges shut its doors due to a sudden drop in funding from Time Warner Cable. This is when Reuss carried out the writing, testing, creating, and publishing of her book and kit “Mom Dollar Money”, and started her blog Indie by Nature.
Presently, Reuss continues to expand her blog, while writing more books that cater to other musicians, authors, and indie businesses. She’s also working other musicians, authors, and businesses, by doing things such as: T.V. commercials, music productions, voice overs, photography, and marketing.
