Elusivewax

Stewart Parr (AKA Stewart Essence) was born in West London in the late sixties and raised in South London from the age of four. He left school and travelled throughout Europe whilst jumping back to the UK to perform at various venues. He graduated from Middlesex University in 1997 with a BA Hons. in history and education. He went on to study music at Goldsmith’s gaining a music diploma in the mid millennium. He built his own company (Elusivewax) in 1996 and taught music technology throughout London and the South East until 2010. In 2014 he gained a post graduate degree in cultural education at UCL.
Stewart Essence began a music career much sooner than gaining his academic achievements playing various contemporary styles including; hiphop, soul, funk, disco and dub in the mid-eighties in pubs and bars in London. As dance music evolved in the UK in the late eighties Stewart embraced this new sound and began organising parties across the capital under the guises; Have some of That and Acid Dub. As his reputation grew he soon became a known on the London club scene. In the early nineties he began collaborating with many DJ’s and promoters including DJ Harvey, Sugarlump, Marbo, Richie Hawtin and The Dust Brothers.
After several successive parties and club nights he soon embraced house music and began playing marathon deep house sets at private events, festivals and clubs. In 1994 when the Criminal Justice Bill was introduced to stop 'repetitive beats being played to crowds more than six people' he moved further into Londons' DJ circuit and played at The Paradise Club, The Ministry of Sound, Legends, Bagleys and Turnmills. Stewart Essence created the brand name Elusivewax in the late nineties and began performing under the same name in nightclubs across the globe playing electronic music to many audiences. He also held a monthly residency at New York’s Filter 14 club from 2004-06.
In 1999 he was asked to play with DJ Harvey at The End nightclub owned by Mr. C and Layo Paskin. When Harvey din'tt turn up Stewart played all night long for a continuous seven-hour set. This put his reputation on a good platform at the club and across the London underground club circuit. The next year he began a residency at the club working alongside; Sancho Panza, Darren Emerson, Sven Väth, Mr. C, Layo and Bushwacka!, Green Velvet, Dirty Vagus and Blonde. He also went on to play at the clubs 'Hidden Affairs' night on Sunday's. He continued to experiment with tech house and funky techno until 2009 when the club closed its doors.
Stewart now lives in Cambridge with his wife and family and continues to play a mixture of nu-disco, house and funk music for his various audiences.
