Antony Wolfson

Antony Wolfson was born in August 1966 in Bournemouth, England. He is one of two children born to Lorraine & Michael Wolfson, who originated from Liverpool. A Jew, brought up in a traditional home, he moved to London at 18 years old to pursue a career in the Arts. Always inspired by music from the earliest age, he spent much of his childhood teaching himself the guitar and composing his own songs. Whilst other children played football, Antony sang in school bands and performed for the Jewish community.
His earliest musical influences were the incendiary explosion of Elvis Presley’s performances to the deep, moving passion of Neil Diamond’s heart-rending song writing. All had a profound effect on the young Antony.
He attended St Martin's School of Art in central London in the mid 1980’s - graduating with a degree in Fine Art and found himself returning to his love of music, performing with his guitar in north-west London’s many bars and restaurants.
A career in the Police in his mid-thirties found him quickly rising through the ranks and being asked to perform at Police charity events. After he met his manager, Mark Sapsford of Standing Ovation Music Management and Promotion he found himself performing as the lead artist in shows at theatres, holiday parks and charity events including being interviewed by the BBC as his profile increased further. Within a short few years, Antony launched an album of covers on iTunes, Amazon and other major online retailers. This attracted a lot of interest and was played on the radio to great acclaim. He was approached by a US songwriting team and recorded “As Long As I”. This reached number 1 on the Internet music SoundClick charts over Christmas 2009 beating over a 100,000 other songs to the coveted spot. It was time to consider a professional signing to a label.
In late 2010, Antony signed to Plaza Records, an independently owned record label run by the legendary composer and producer Roberto Danova, who worked with artists including Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli to name a few - and responsible for the global success of The Phantom of the Opera on Ice. Plaza asked Antony to record ‘So Do I’ a ballad which was originally released by Vendetta. This new arrangement - being released in the Spring of 2011 - has a vulnerable quality to the vocals and has created great interest. Antony, being billed as “The Singing Policeman” has evoked substantial media attention. Antony is on his way to being a major recording artist. www.antonywolfsonmusic.com
