Edwin Curry is a 63-year old Irish man from Kilkenny, County Kilkenny who was found guilty at his trial in November 2009 of 189 counts of indecent assault on nine female children. The abuse took place at several locations between 1964 and 1985. He was sentenced to four years in prison in January 2010. Background Curry lived on his own at 33 Kells Roads in Kilkenny. The court at his trial heard a statement from a detective describing "atrocious" living conditions at Curry's home: "Rubbish had piled up over the years. He had a liking for cats. Dead cats were found in boxes with their names on them. It was impossible to search the house because of the smell and he had lived there on this own since the 1990's". The sentencing judge noted the length of his time in which he carried out these acts as being "a most serious offence". It was a concurrent sentencing and was backdated to his November 2009 conviction Curry was also placed on Ireland's sex offenders register for the rest of his life. The Evening Heralds Padraig O Morain noted "Curry will be out just in time to pick up his pension and his free travel pass". The Irish Times included the sentencing in its "in brief" round-up of that days stories. A discussion about sex abuse and this case took place on radio show Today with Pat Kenny.
