James Burlander

James Douglas Burlander (born October 24, 1987) is an American radio-personality, producer, and programmer in Tampa, Florida. His own show creations include a mixshows: "Hernando Hitmix" (CHR/Rhythmic) and "AMP'd Radio" (Dance/Techno). Currently, Burlander is working on creating a radio show for new music called the New Music Hour for WFLZ-FM (93.3 FLZ). His young start in radio, at the age of thirteen, earned him the nickname "The NextGeneration of Radio." Burlander can presently be heard on-air on WFLZ-FM on weekend overnights and swing shifts.
Early Life
James Burlander grew up in Brooksville, Florida. There was nothing but school, movies, and bowling. Once Burlander entered middle school he found his interest in mixing music and his passion of radio.
Starting in 2001, Burlander not only was the DJ of his middle school dances, but he also had the tremendous opportunity and privilege to learn about the radio industry from one of it's best, heritage CHR WFLZ-FM (93.3 FLZ) in Tampa, Florida. He traveled the 53 miles south every opportunity he was given; he was allowed to learn, watch, and occasionally interact on air in-studio with the stations air personalities. Burlander spent most of his time learning about the work involved in putting together and executing an entertaining and flawless air-shift.
Additionally, James also was able to learn radio imaging, production, about station automation (Radio Computing Services's NexGen Digital Automation System), and a lot more. His knowledge of the Prophet system earned him the nickname "The Nex(t)Generation of Radio" from WFLZ part-timer, Brian Holmes. This all has given James a priceless jump into the industry, achieving what most still haven't achieved after four years of communication in college.
Getting Into Radio
In April of 2005, Burlander started to fill in, mixing, a few times for the "Bump In Yo' Trunk" on FLY 92.1 (WFFY/Ft. Walton Beach), under PD Brian Holmes. This was a major step for Burlander, and is his first official step into the radio industry.
In November of 2005, Burlander got a call from the Assistant Program Director of WFLZ (93.3 FLZ), Kane. Kane invited him down for what he thought would be a meeting to discuss future business opportunities. He was wrong; Kane brought Burlander back into his office and laid down an application, "and the rest is history". James also currently works down the hall at WFLA-AM and WMTX-FM as a part-time board-op, as well as doing some productions duties also.
Present Time
In 2009, Burlander started up his own creative services company, James Burlander Creative Services. It provides voiceover, programming ideas, and mixes for syndication. He is also finishing up his full-time college degree for Marketing.
