Edley ODowd

Overview
Edward ODowd has been performing live with bands such as Psychic TV, Kylesa, Shilpa Ray, and participating in studio recordings as a drummer for the last 22 years. Raised on rock music of the 70s and alternative music of the 80s, Edward has developed a solid, stripped down percussive style modeled after drummers such as John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones and later, Maureen Tucker of The Velvet Underground and Thomas Wydler of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Edward relocated to London, England in 1990 to pursue drumming full-time. After failed management and recording deals, Edward found life in London too harsh and returned to New York in 1992 to find a thriving music scene full of possibilities. He began drumming and recording with groups such as Special Head, Tadpoles and Sally Maladroite. The latter two of which featured him on recordings produced by Kramer of Shimmy Disc fame. This period also saw Edward as a guest drummer at the now legendary New York club night “Squeezebox” where he backed many incredible performers such as Lene Lovich, Deborah Harry and Jayne County.
In 1995, Edward teamed up with downtown DJ legend Miss Guy to form the group Toilet Boys. Quickly developing a large international fan base, they became darlings of the underground rock scene in New York City, being sought out for fashion magazine photo shoots, television commercials and clothing endorsements. With countless sold out club shows in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan, the band released 7 albums, were featured on compilations and soundtracks alike and their videos received heavy rotation on MTV2. Activities reached a new height in 2002 with an arena tour of Europe as support act for The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Psychic TV
After the initial dissolution of Toilet Boys in 2002, Edley turned to long time friend Genesis P-Orridge for inspiration. Having been a fan of Psychic TV in his teens, Edley and Genesis decided to join forces along with Genesis’ late partner and Edley’s long-time friend Jaqueline Breyer on an artistic and musical level. The collaboration went so far as to have the three occupying the same building in Brooklyn in order to create art full-time together until Jaqueline’s untimely death in 2007. Beginning with a sold out, unpublicized performance in New York City during a blizzard in December 2003, Edley was able to compliment Genesis’ sensibilities by putting together and rehearsing a band, which Genesis calls h/er ‘favorite line-up ever’ Edley has produced the music and created the graphic designs for nearly all Psychic TV (often referred to as PTV3) releases and merchandising since the band’s revival.
Design Work
A graduate of Purchase College in New York in 1991, Edley ODowd has worked for some of the top music entertainment and book publishing companies in the country. Within a few years he launched Edward ODowd Graphic Design, a company currently in its nineteenth year of business with a diverse range of clients including companies such as Sony Music Entertainment, The Penguin Publishing Group and The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In addition to being owner and principal designer of his company, Edley has given numerous lectures and has taught several courses in graphic design at Purchase College and Parsons School of Design. His work has received attention in publications including Publisher’s Weekly and Print, and has been heavily featured in several books on the subject of graphic design including Colossal Design by Clare Warmke and Next: The New Generation in Graphic Design by Jesse Reyes.
His latest project Angry Love Productions, is a record label dedicated to releasing limited, collectible vinyl editions featuring rare music with handmade elements. Edley will launch the first solo exhibition of his work in December 2016 at Lethal Amounts gallery in Los Angeles under the title
