Dwayne Ashley is a fundraising and management executive who has served at national nonprofit and education organizations raising more than $200 million throughout his career. He currently serves as the Chief Development Officer for Jazz at Lincoln Center. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Global Operations for SFK-Success for Kids were he was responsible for managing operations, human resources, finance and fundraising for the international organization and works closely with the CEO for Education and Outreach to support the international programs. Education In 1990, Ashley graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Wiley College, Texas’ oldest historically black college. Ashley earned his master’s degree in Governmental Administration from the in 1998. He also earned executive certifications from the Indiana School of Philanthropy’s Fundraising Program, and Chevron/Texaco Non Profit Executive Leadership Program. Career Ashley’s career in non-profit began with a position as Campaign Manager for the United Way of America in 1990 where he oversaw workplace the organization’s Fundraising Campaign raising $250k to $500k annually. He was later recruited to serve as the Area Director for the where he oversaw regional fundraising and brand activities for Pennsylvania, Delaware, Ohio and New Jersey. In 1996, he joined 100 Black Men of America as the Executive Director for the men's civic organization and service club whose stated goal is to educate and empower African American children and teens. Ashley joined the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) in 1999 as Executive Director and was later promoted to be the organization’s President and Chief Executive Officer. During his 10-year tenure at TMCF, he raised more than $100 million in support of leadership development, scholarships and capacity building support for public historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). He succeeded Johnny Parham, who served as Executive Director for 5 years. Board Positions, Honors and Recognition Mr. Ashley currently serves on the board of directors of the New York-based Evidence Dance Company. He has served on the board of the The Gallup Organization, HBCU Capital Financing Board, Commissioner for Historic Preservation for the City of Newark, National Society of Fundraising Executives (now the American Society of Fundraising Professionals) in Philadelphia and NYC. and recently completed his term as a member of the Newark Public Library Board of Trustees. Has been selected as Ebony Magazine's "100 Most Influential Black Americans" list for six consecutive years and is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of the District of Columbia; Distinguished Alumnus Award from Langston University; Positive Image Award from the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity; and numerous other awards and honors.
