Carol Sue Pearson

Carol Sue Pearson is an American author, consultant, and college professor and administrator. She is the creator of the Pearson Archetypal System and a series of books and instruments that support its use.
Pearson is executive vice president and provost at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. From January 2011 to May 2011, she served as acting president of Pacifica during the sabbatical of the president, Stephen Aizenstat.
Pearson currently is editing a book, entitled “Being the Change: 21st Century Thinking for Transformational Leaders,” as part of a three-year project, sponsored by the Fetzer Institute, focusing on the theory and practice of leadership for transformation, for which she is principal investigator. It will be published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers in 2012. She also is developing a master’s degree program in Leadership and Organizational Development for Pacifica.
Before moving to Pacifica in September 2009, Pearson was director of the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership and a member of the faculty of the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland College Park. Earlier in her academic career, she was a faculty member at the University of Colorado at Boulder and founding director of CU Women Studies Program; a faculty member and first director of the at the University of Maryland College Park; a professor and academic dean and vice president at Goucher College in Towson, MD; a professor and Distinguished Research Scholar in Human and Organizational Development at Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC and dean of the Mount Vernon Institute; and director of the Transformational Leadership Certificate Program in the Center for Professional Development at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She also served as president of Meristem, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering personal, professional, and organizational development, and was a part-time faculty member at Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center in San Francisco, CA.
In 1980-81, Pearson was a Fellow in Academic Administration at the American Council on Education (ACE). Subsequently, she was a visiting scholar at ACE’s Center for Leadership Development and a Senior Fellow at its Office of Women in Higher Education. She also has been a senior scholar at the National Association of Women in Higher Education.
Pearson was a founding editorial board member of and an editorial board member of the journal Feminist Studies. In addition, she was Senior Editor of a quarterly magazine, The Inner Edge: A Resource for Enlightened Business Practice.
Pearson is the author or co-author of numerous books and articles in the fields of archetypal psychology, leadership, business, literature, and women studies. She has served on a variety of boards and committees, including the board of directors and the executive committee of the International Leadership Association and the board of directors of the .
In 1987, Pearson was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Norwich University in Northfield, VT.
