History DVArchive grew out of the Wish You Were Here stock footage company, founded in 1996 in Burbank, California by Rick Ray. Ray had traveled the world shooting footage of landmarks, cultures and people for the National Geographic Society, and the Discovery Channel and saw a need for individuals to access his vast footage library, without having to receive and review physical research tapes in the mail. Ray launched a website offering his clips and those of many colleagues in 1999 so customers could search, find, organize and license footage in one convenient location.
