DVArchive licenses royalty free, digital film and video clips in a wide variety of formats to creative professionals around the world. The company is headquartered in Ventura, California. With over 250,000 video clips online, DVArchive owns one of the largest and most diversified collections of downloadable, royalty free stock footage in the world. The company represents more than 150 cinematographers, many of whom shoot custom footage for the DVArchive. DVArchive visitors can search the database of clips, select, manage, download and integrate footage directly from the website. Because all the clips are royalty free, users bypass the usage negotiations often associated with stock footage libraries. History DVArchive grew out of the Wish You Were Here stock footage company, founded in 1996 in Burbank, California by Rick Ray. Ray had traveled the world shooting footage of landmarks, cultures and people for the National Geographic Society, and the Discovery Channel and saw a need for individuals to access his vast footage library, without having to receive and review physical research tapes in the mail. Ray launched a website offering his clips and those of many colleagues in 1999 so customers could search, find, organize and license footage in one convenient location.
