Dunmore Candy Kitchen is a family owned candy store in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. History The business was founded in 1904 by Jimmy Veras, and served Dunmore and Lackawanna County. Louis Perrella started working at the store in 1924 at the age of 6, and took over running the store in the mid-1960s. It was originally based on Drinker Street near Dunmore Corners. Dunmore Candy Kitchen was a popular place for children to socialise in the summertime, and was known for their "Famous Ice Cream Soda" and cherry and vanilla phosphate. It would sometimes would be open 7 days a week. In October 1995, a fire destroyed the store, the upstairs residential area and stock, but the company survived and reopened that Christmas. Perrella died at 82 in 2000, and was succeeded by his son Charles. He subsequently sold the company to Laura Reuther, who took over operations with her family. In 2014, the owners announced they would move business to new store in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The existing store on Drinker Street would be retained as a retail store.
