DocZilla is a graphical web browser based on the Mozilla Foundation's Gecko layout engine, capable of parsing and rendering SGML and XML. History The predecessor of DocZilla was an SGML browser application called Multidoc Pro. Due to licensing issues its development was canceled and DocZilla replaced it. The first official appearance of DocZilla was on February 15, 1999 when "Miss DocZilla" (Mirja Hukari) announced that "Citec have made its XML, SGML, and HTML browser, DocZilla Preview and all-new Demo Kit, available." The first official version 1.0 was released on May 31, 2003. Features Using OpenSP as an SGML parser, DocZilla reads SGML and XML documents directly into a DOM tree (without XSLT transformations), and styles and renders them with CSS. It also supports many special features of SGML itself, like the display of NDATA entities. Extended XLinks and parts of HyTime are supported of linking standards. In addition to that, it has a selection of proprietary features, like SGML/XML search, a navigation tree panel and simple annotations. DocZilla includes also support for CGM graphics. Development Releases of DocZilla have been infrequent. The most recent, released on July 8, 2005, is version 2.7pre1, built on Mozilla v1.7.8 and OpenSP v1.5.1.
