Desert Ridge Middle School (DRMS) is a middle school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is located in the Northeast Heights region of Albuquerque, and has been operational since the 1997-1998 school year. It is part of the La Cueva cluster. To date, Desert Ridge has had the highest standardized test scores among middle schools in the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) system. The student population is approximately 1,148. Lunch Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, DRMS added a "C" lunch to avoid overcrowding in A and B lunches. Eighth graders have A lunch, sixth graders have B lunch, and seventh graders have C lunch. DRMS has three snack bars in addition to regular cafeteria food. Dress code Although DRMS does not require school uniforms, the school has a strict dress code enforced on campus for students and staff members. All clothing must cover the "modesty zone". Items that are not allowed include short or tight shorts, clothing that shows underwear, sleeveless shirts, and clothing that displays offensive content, such as profanity. Sunglasses and baseball caps can only be worn outside. Teachers and staff have the discretion to determine what is appropriate and inappropriate attire. Security During the winter break of the 2008-2009 school year, wiring for a security system was installed at DRMS. From January to March, security cameras were installed in various locations on campus. Areas include hallways, the lobby, the front desk, the library, the cafeteria, the outdoor patio, the main gym, and the mini gym. The camera installation is complete, and they are in operation for 24 hours a day. No cameras were installed in classrooms, restrooms, or locker rooms.<ref name="desertridgems.com march-april 2009 newsletter"/> Notable alumni
