Democratically elected

A democratically elected government is one which has come into power through constitutionally-mandated elections, although there are disputes about whether this is sufficient to classify a government as "democratic". The term "democratically elected" is often used as a label or category in general rules in political science discussions. Frequently discussed issues include whether democratic countries ever choose socialism or communism; and whether or not democratic countries ever wage war on each other (see Democratic peace theory).
Frequently, a democratically elected official or government has been overthrown soon after assuming power.
